Mehrokh Jafari, Mehri Jafari's sister, confirmed the death of the climber in an interview with Iran International, saying that the Iranian government had not taken any action against his sister.

Mehri Jafari had been missing in the Tian Shan Mountains of Central Asia since 13 August. He was planning to climb Pubda Peak in Kyrgyzstan
