Zarif Files Complaint to U.N Against United States's Decision on IRGC

 

Mohammad Javad Zarif, the foreign minister of Iran filed an official complaint to the U.N regarding the decision by the White House to designate Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, calling the decision “unprecedented, illegal, and dangerous adventure seeking, and said that the United States and its allies are responsible for the consequences.

President Trump on Monday designated IRGC as a terrorist organization.

Zarif is referring to Saudi Arabia and Israel who supported Trump’s decision. Saudi Arabia called the decision a “serious and pragmatic” step against terrorism. Benjamin Netanyahu, prime minister of Israel said that President Trump’s decision was a positive response to one of his main requests.

In his letter to the U.N secretary-general, Zarif states that such action is “a clear violation of international law and U.N charter including the equality in sovereignty." Syria, Turkey, and Hezbollah condemned the U.S decision. Japan stated that it will not follow the decision.

The white house believes that by supporting Hezbollah, Hamas, and Houthis in Yemen. Iran has destabilized the region and must be stopped. Therefore they will continue with the campaign of “maximum pressure” against Ira.
