Saudi Arabia: Iran is the Biggest Threat to the Arab World

Ibrahim Assaf, the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, called Iran the biggest threat that is challenging the Arab world.

According to Reuters, talking at the summit of Arab countries in Tunisia, Assaf urged the Arab countries to collaborate in fighting the threat of Iran.

He described Iran’s intervention in Arabic countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq as clear terrorism and fundamentalism in the region.

Assaf also mentioned Iran’s missile program and accused Iran of providing Houthis with rockets to attack Saudi Arabian cities.

In another part of his speech, the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia stated that the Saudi Arabian kingdom wants Syria to keep its sovereignty, and to find a solution between the rebels and the government. He asked the rebels to unite before negotiations with the government of Syria and hold a united position.

Syria’s membership in the Arab League has been suspended since 2011 with the pressure from Saudi Arabia and its allies. The meeting between the Arab foreign ministers was held before the official beginning of the summit on Sunday. Arab league consists of 22 countries, including 12 Asian and 10 African countries.
