Javaid Rehman: There is evidence of torture in Iranian prisons

In his most recent report on Human Rights in Iran, Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on Iran specifically mentions the suppression of November protests in Iran and the condition of those arrested during the protests.

According to the report, there is evidence that shows the defendants were denied their chosen attorneys and were sometimes tortured and mistreated by the Islamic Republic agents for confession.

The report, published on Wednesday, mentions a wide array of Human Rights violations including the rights of minorities and women, the right to assembly and association, execution of children, and public executions. It also states that execution in some cases can be the punishment for sexual crimes including sex out of wedlock and homosexual relationships.

According to Rehman’s report, during the November protests in Iran, over 400 have been killed and based on official sources inside Iran, at least 7000 have been arrested.

The report also mentions pressures by the Islamic Republic on Iranian journalists working in Persian media outside of Iran through the persecution of their families in Iran.

Based on the report, dozens of Bahais have also been arrested by the regime in recent months.
