Israeli Media: Iran Has Also Hacked Ehud Barak’s Phone

Israeli media reported that Iran has hacked former prime minister Ehud Barak’s phone.

The media previously reported that Iran had also hacked the cell phone of Benny Gants, former chief of general staff of the Israeli Defense Force.

Benny Gants is Netanyahu’s main competition for the position of the prime minister in the upcoming election. He asked the attorney general on Sunday to open an investigation regarding the hacking news.

On Thursday, March 14, Israel’s channel 12 announced that Mr. Gants’ cell phone had been hacked by Iranian intelligence services. The next day, Gants confirmed the report but did not say anything about the identity of the hackers.

He added that his cellphone did not contain any sensitive information and the release of this news right before the election is a political attack against him.

In a letter to the attorney general, Gants’ attorney demanded an investigation about the perpetrators of the attack. He also indicated that people close to Netanyahu might be involved in this case. He writes: “We cannot ignore the signs…that the hacking has been done from an office in Jerusalem.”

According to the media, Mr. Gants was informed by the Israeli national security about the hacking of his phone five weeks ago.
