Iraqi protesters attack and set fire to Iranian consulate in Karbala

Hundreds of Iraqi protesters attacked the Iranian consulate in Karbala on Sunday night. According to the reports, the protesters set fire to parts of the consulate walls and wanted to occupy the building.

During the Sunday attack on the Iranian consulate in Karbala, the Iraqi protesters raised Iraqi flags on the walls and the doors of the consulate and chanted against some Iranian officials and the leader of Iran.

According to the latest reports, Iraqi armed forces arrived at the scene and clashed with the protesters. There is no report on the number of injuries or casualties.

Sunday’s call to march by syndicates and activists has caused many government buildings and schools to shut down on the first workday of the week across Iraq.

In Baghdad, the protesters blocked several streets of the capital despite warnings from the security forces ordering them to move away from the obstacles placed in streets near the Green Zone and return to Tahrir square.

During the last month’s protests across Iraq, the protesters in various cities, including in Karbala, have chanted repeatedly against the Islamic Republic high-ranking officials. The protesters demand an end to Iran’s interference in Iraq’s domestic affairs.
