In response to Mike Pompeo’s offer of negotiation without preconditions, the spokesperson for the Islamic Republic’s ministry of foreign affairs said: “Iran does not care about wordplay and expressing hidden intentions with new words. What matters to us is a change in the United States’ general attitude and behavior towards Iran.”

Mousavi continued: “Mr. Pompeo’s emphasis on continuing the maximum pressure campaign against Iran shows the continuation of the previous wrong approach which needs to be changed.”

Pompeo recently stated in Switzerland that his country is willing to negotiate with Tehran without preconditions if Iran acts like a normal country.

In a joint press conference with the foreign minister of Switzerland, Pompeo said: “The United States is open to negotiation with Tehran without preconditions if Iran behaves like a normal country. But the pressure campaign against the Islamic Regime’s destructive behavior will continue.”

Regarding the IAEA report about Iran’s nuclear activities, Pompeo said: “We are following the IAEA activities closely and we have our own independent system to assess what is happening in Iran.”

He added: “The world needs to know that we are observing Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA. Not just the heavy water, but storing the enriched uranium and the centrifuges they are installing.”
