Britain condemns Iran’s lie about transporting oil to Syria

The foreign ministry of Britain summoned the Islamic Republic ambassador in London and condemned Iran’s violation of its promise about Adrian Sarya 1 tanker.

Dominic Raab, the foreign minister of Britain issued a statement on Tuesday, September 10, saying: Iran repeatedly gave assurances to the government of Gibraltar that the Grace 1/Adrian Darya 1 would not deliver oil to any EU-sanctioned entity in Syria or elsewhere. It is now clear that Iran has breached these assurances and that the oil has been transferred to Syria and Assad’s murderous regime.”

The satellite images show that the Iranian tanker was last seen near the Syrian port of Tartous. The tanker turned off its transponder before entering Syrian waters.

“Iran has shown complete disregard for its own assurances over Adrian Darya 1. This sale of oil to Assad’s brutal regime is part of a pattern of behavior by the government of Iran designed to disrupt regional security," the statement reads.

According to the statement, “This includes illegally supplying weapons to Houthi insurgents in Yemen, support for Hezbollah terrorists and most recently its attempts to hijack commercial ships passing through the Gulf.”

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reminded on his Twitter account that Zarif had given assurances to British officials that the tanker will not go to Syria.

Pompeo said: “Trusting Zarif was a big mistake.”
