The spokesperson for the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran says it is possible for small changes to be made in the nuclear deal (JCPOA).

According to Rabiei, if sanctions are lifted and things go back to how they were under the deal, “it is possible to negotiate in those situations, and even to assure the president, we have suggested a small change at the heart of the JCPOA.”

Reuters had previously reported that Rouhani has announced that Iran is ready to negotiate over small changes in the nuclear deal if the sanctions are lifted. But later Rouhani’s chief of staff clarified that “the report is not correct.”

After separate meeting and talks with President Trump and President Rouhani in United Nations, Angela Merkel, the German chancellor said Iran’s demand for lifting all sanctions as a prerequisite to negotiation is “unrealistic.”

Rabiei claimed that many countries have offered to mediate a meeting between Trump and Rouhani, but the Islamic Republic insists on lifting the sanctions.

He also condemned the statement made by Germany, Britain, and France in which they blamed the Islamic Republic for the attack on Saudi Arabian oil facilities. According to Rabiei: “The statement by the three European countries condemning Iran for the events between Saudi Arabia and Yemen is absolutely unacceptable and without any evidence or reason.”

The European powers also mentioned in their statement that it is time for Iran to agree to new and more permanent negotiations over its nuclear and missile program.
