University Students demanded a referendum and release of political prisoners

Students in several universities in Iran held gatherings in honor of the victims of the Ukrainian plane that was shot down by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, and protested the arrest of university students, violation of the independence of universities, and the “fraudulent” parliamentary election.

In Bu-Ali Sina University in Hamedan, the students chanted “independence, liberty, Iranian University”.

In Tehran’s Allameh Tabataba'i University, the students were chanting “political prisoners must be released, you are both tyrants and charlatans, shame on this tyranny, Liberty and justice are the nation’s slogans” and “unity is the thorn in the tyrant’s side”.

The students also chanted for a referendum on the entirety of the Islamic Republic regime.

Allameh University students released a statement saying: “The regime claims to champion a republic, Islam, independence, and freedom while holding fake elections. It is better to replace the word election with appointment.”

In Tehran’s Amirkabir University of Technology, Basiji students clashed with protesting students. Student Basij is a branch of the Revolutionary Guard inside the universities.

In one video, a Basiji student prevents a memorial being held for the victims of the Ukrainian plane because the students did not have a permit.

On Sunday, hundreds of Amirkabir University students held a memorial for the victims of the Ukrainian plane and the victims of the protests across the country in November.

The students chanted: “1500, our casualties for November.”
