After a call to strike by the Teachers’ Associations Coordination Council, teachers in cities across Iran went on a strike for one day. The council previously released a statement asking teachers to go on strike in support of the gathering of the retirees in front of the parliament on Monday.

Images on social media show teachers in the provinces of Kurdistan, Fars, Bushehr, and Khorasan Razavi staying in the office and refusing to go to their classes.

At the same time, reports indicate that a group of retirees have also gathered in front of the parliament in Tehran.

In recent years, Iranian teachers have gone on strike several times for one or two days in protests to their wages, the education policies, and the oppressive security atmosphere of schools. Many teachers have been arrested and persecuted in recent years.
