President Hassan Rouhani once again mentioned the case of Babak Zanjani’s embezzlement and said: “I said this three years ago, if you arrest someone and execute them, it doesn’t make things right. We are not after executions, we’re after the money. Where is the money?

In his weekly cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Rouhani said: “The president cannot get over such things, and this is the tenth time I’m bringing up this $2.7 billion and I have said it repeatedly. People have a right to know about what happened to this $2.7 billion and its interest and who are the ones behind the curtain.”

Babak Zanjani was a businessman that used to help the Ahmadinejad administration to evade sanctions. He was later arrested and sentenced to death for not delivering $2.7 billion in revenue from oil sales.

On Sunday, Rouhani had criticized the judiciary for not delivering the money that Babak Zanjani.

In response, the spokesman for the judiciary claimed that some of the people indicted in embezzlement cases have been promoted in Rouhani’s administration. Esmaili accused Rouhani of “polarizing the country” and said: “It has now been six years since this administration came to power. Why are they announcing these supposed corruptions just now and complain to the judiciary?”

President Rouhani added: “The supreme leader told me that what you are saying is your right, and they should answer to you and say what they have done. This is the order of the master, Islam, and the law.”
