Mirbagheri: National TV’s audience has doubled

Morteza Mirbagheri, deputy of Tv in the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) says that the number of their audience is twice more than Persian speaking foreign channels.

Mirbagheri claimed that according to new surveys, 72 percent of people follow IRIB’s series and movies, and only 28 percent watch foreign channels.

He added: “If we measure in the amount of time that people spend watching our programs, this number reaches 5 to 1. Meaning the viewers of IRIB both in numbers and in the amount of time watched are about five times higher than foreign channels.”

Meanwhile owning a satellite dish in Iran is still considered a crime, so no surveys in this matter are credible. And despite governments’ attempts at confiscating satellite dishes, according to the former minister of culture, at least 70% of Iranians watch satellite channels.
