Minister of Intelligence: We Uphold Human Rights Better Than Our Enemies

Mahmoud Alavi, the Islamic Republic’s Minister of Intelligence said that Iran upholds human rights better than its enemies.

He said: “The enemies of the Islamic Republic use human rights violations to justify their animosity towards the Islamic Republic, but their animosity is not due to human rights.”

He added: “Many countries have the death penalty, and Saudi Arabia executes people in an inhumane way that we never do.” He suggested that the Islamic Republic’s defense capabilities is the reason for the animosity toward Iran.

Despite his claims, it has been well documented that Iran has the highest rate of executions in the world, and both previous Unite Nations’ human rights special reporters to Iran have called Iran’s human rights record “alarming”. The Islamic Republic does not allow U.N human rights reporters to travel to the country.
