Karrubi re-elected as the leader of Etemad Melli party

In today’s meeting of the Etemad Melli party leadership, Mehdi Karroubi was elected as the chairman, and Elias Hazrati and Esmail Gerami Moghaddam were elected as the deputy chairman and the spokesman of the party for the duration of one year.

Mehdi Karroubi has been under house arrest since almost one year after the 2009 elections.  He was reinstated by the majority as the leader of the party.

During a session in May, there was an attempt to ignore the majority vote to reinstate Karroubi as the leader of the party, which led to heated debates and altercations, and the session ended without a conclusion.
