Iranian army’s unexpected drill near borders as Turkish army enters Syria

As Turkey announced that its army is entering north of Syria, the army of the Islamic Republic of Iran started an unannounced drill near the western and northwestern borders of the country.

The exercise, named “The Unexpected Military Drill of the Army Ground Forces” started on Wednesday morning in Urmia general area with quick-response units and mobilized assault units with support from air force helicopters with the slogan “one target, one bullet.”

During the drill, the commander-in-chief of the Islamic Republic army, Abdul-Rahim Mousavi, announced that “the units have had a good exercise in quick response and reaching the goals of the drill,” adding: “We are ready to defend against any level of threat that the enemies might have designed.”

He continued: “After the structural changes in the army ground forces, its units changed function into quick-response and mobilized assault, so it was necessary to assess these units and test their readiness, mobility, and speed.”

“The message of this drill for the enemies is that if they make miscalculations, they should know that the children of this land are ready for resistance whenever and wherever necessary,” Mousavi said.

The local press was not allowed in the drill area. According to IRNA: “Only the reporters from the state-TV in Tehran were invited to cover this unexpected drill.”
