Iran: The supertanker’s oil cargo has been sold

The spokesman for the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Rabiei, announced that the cargo of the supertanker Adrian Darya1 (Grace 1) has been sold and “the buyer will decide the final destination”.

In his weekly press conference on Monday, August 26, Rabiei said: “The destination of the tanker will be decided by the buyer. They will not check it with us, and the buyer will decide where and how they should transport the oil.”

The spokesman continued: “One of the bad policies that the US is following is constantly monitoring the ship and threatening other countries about it.”

Adrian-Darya1, formerly Grace1, was recently released from Gibraltar after being detained for over a month for violating EU sanctions against Syria.

After the tanker was released, the prime minister of Greece announced that it will not dock in Greece, claiming the supertanker is too large to dock in the country’s harbor.

According to the Associated Press, after Greece’s refusal, the tanker has changed direction toward Turkey.

Meanwhile, a court in the United States has ordered the tanker to be detained for its ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which was added to the US terror list recently.

A few days earlier, the state-owned ILNA wrote that Adrian Darya1 is rented by the IRGC. Hours later ILNA redacted the claim, saying it was a mistake.

However, ILNA did not elaborate on what other company has the lease to Adrian Darya1.
