Coronavirus in 23 provinces; Iran’s death toll reaches 116

According to the most recent confirmed reports by Iran International sources, the death toll of coronavirus in Iran has reached 116.

Kianoush Jahanpour, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that 106 more cases of coronavirus have been identified and seven of them have died. Based on this report, the official death toll of coronavirus in Iran is at 26, with 245 identified cases.

23 provinces of Iran have confirmed cases of coronavirus now, which is up from 16 until yesterday and six from two days ago.

The two main hospitals in Qom city, the center of the epidemic, which were designated for coronavirus patients with 600 beds combined are now at full capacity and there are videos on social media that show hospitals turning away patients.

Therefore, another hospital was designated for coronavirus patients in Qom with 100 beds.

The Health Ministry official sent to Qom city announced on Monday that 300 patients have been hospitalized in these hospitals, but with both hospitals being filled on Tuesday night, that means a 100 percent increase in the number of patients in 24 hours.

However, President Hassan Rouhani stated on Tuesday that the report on coronavirus provided by the Ministry of Health has been “hopeful” and shows “a move toward controlling the virus”. He added that From Saturday the country will resume all normal functions.

The medical teams of several hospitals have also been infected with coronavirus with several casualties.

It was reported that five members of the medical staff in Tajrish hospital in Tehran and their spouses have been infected with coronavirus and one is in critical condition.

Nurse Narjes Khanalizadeh in Lahijan hospital in Gilan province lost her life to coronavirus on Tuesday.

Gilan province has reported 70 cases of coronavirus but officials say that is due to the fact that all test kits must be sent to Tehran for the result and so the real number is probably much higher.
