Broken Promise: 10 More Steelworkers Arrested in Ahvaz
Security forces arrested over 10 National Steel company workers, raising the number of arrested workers in the past two days to 41.
The minister of occupation and welfare told ILNA that he is working on releasing the arrested workers. The governor of Khuzestan province also told the workers that he is aware of their problems and promised to work to solve them.
However, yesterday the head of IRGC operations in Khuzestan province had promised that they will only keep the leaders in custody and release the rest of the workers by the end of the day, and yet more workers were arrested, and none have been released.
The Ahvaz steelworkers’ protests have received some international reactions. Yesterday, Robert Palladino, the spokesperson for the U.S State Department condemned the arrest of the protesting steelworkers in a tweet.
The steelworkers who have not received their salaries for several months, started their protest 38 days ago. Some recently warned that if their problems are not solved by the end of the week, they will go to Tehran and continue their protests there.
