Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the attorney general of the Islamic Republic warned against the presence of women in stadiums and said, “if warnings and cautions don’t work and this trend continues, we will prosecute.”

Addressing the sports authorities, he stated: “It is shameful for the Islamic Republic that its sports authorities provide opportunities for the society to commit sins.”

Montazeri added: “My advice to these authorities is that under the Islamic Republic regime, we will not allow sin to spread in the society; they should protect the chastity of the society. If these trends continue, we will prosecute.”

The Attorney General labeled the presence of women in stadiums as “breaking social taboos” and “spreading sin” and said: “Some people are trying to break taboos. When a lady goes to a stadium and sees men in sportswear and half-naked, sin occurs.”

He emphasized: “According to Sharia, there is no justification for the presence of women in stadiums. People can’t wear or do whatever they want in public.”

On Tuesday, October 16, ILNA reported that after negotiations between the Football Federation and Tehran’s security council, the council has agreed to allow “the family members of the football players, women’s the national football teams, and female Football Federation employees” to be present and watch the game in the stadium. But Mizan News, the Judiciary’s website, has denied this report.
